The act will amend multiple parts of Yukon legislation to help make previous language used more inclusive of the LGBTQ2S+ community.
The Yukon Legislative Assembly has officially passed the Quality of Spouses Statue Law Amendment Act 2018 in the legislature.
The act will amend multiple parts of Yukon legislation regarding language to make it more inclusive of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and two-spirit plus Yukoners.
The act means the former Married Women's Property Act will be repealed as a result and the current government notes previous stuck down laws years ago that do not recognize the rights of same sex couples are being systematically removed from Yukon laws to make language more inclusive for everyone.
Minister of Justice Tracy-Anne Mcphee says "laws that use non-binary and sexist language have no place in our modern society" and that the government "will will continue to ensure our laws are inclusive of all Yukoners, including the LGBTQ2S+ community."
Recent amended legislation to create more inclusiveness in the LGBTQ2S community include the Vital Statistics Act and the Human Rights act.
