Environment Yukon says remediation work continues near Alaska Highway and North Klondike Highway following June 22 spill.
Environment Yukon says it is still trying to determine the level of contamination following a fuel tanker spill west of Whitehorse June 22.
The department estimates that roughly 3400 litres of leaked. Nearly 7000 litres were recovered from the overturned truck. Over 900 tonnes of soil has been evacuated.
Environment Yukon issued a spills order to Pacesetter Petroleum Ltd. who had care and control of the fuel at the time of the release and ordered them to remediate the site.
Pacesetter Petroleum has taken over the monitoring and replacement of booms on the Little Takhini Creek.
One of their tankers crashed at the intersection of the Alaska Highway and North Klondike Highway at roughly 7 AM, forcing traffic to a standstill for roughly 8 hours.
