A community walk, food, and entertainment are scheduled, with the march starting at 11 a.m. from the Healing Totem at the downtown wharf.
The Council of Yukon First Nations will host events in Whitehorse Tomorrow, September 30, to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The day honors the survivors of residential schools, as well as the children who never returned home. A community walk, food, and entertainment are scheduled, with the march starting at 11 a.m. from the Healing Totem at the downtown wharf.
The march will proceed down Main Street to Second Avenue, finishing at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre.
According to the city of Whitehorse, Second Avenue will be closed from Main Street to Black Street, with traffic detoured down Third and Fourth Avenues. Traffic control measures will be in place, and public transit stops on Second Avenue will be affected, with buses rerouting to Fourth Avenue.
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was established in 2021. The day, which coincides with Orange Shirt Day, commemorates the Survivors, lost children, and families impacted by the residential school system.
