Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett says COVID-19 is making  it impossible to create final report

A final report on missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls  will not be ready today as planned.

June 3rd will mark one year since the national inquiry  concluded with a 1,200-page report and 231 “calls for justice.”
The inquiry held its first hearings in Whitehorse beginning at the end of May 2017.

Bennett told the Assembly of First Nations last December  the government's promised national action plan would be ready by the one-year anniversary.

Now she says the government remains committed to getting the response completed but   many of the people who were working on the front lines of the response are some  the same people helping provinces and Indigenous communities cope with the pandemic.

Meanwhile in State of Alaska 'Operation Lady Justice', is underway... it is tasked with reviewing Indian Country cold cases, strengthening law enforcement protocols, and working with tribes to improve investigations, information sharing and a more seamless response to missing persons investigations.

The next  session is scheduled for tribes in Bureau of Indian Affairs Northwestern and Alaska Regions.
