Champagne and Aishihik First Nations member Denise Beattie has taken on the role of General Manager with CHON-FM. Stuart Bonell discusses her goals for the future of the station in the interview below.
CHON-FM has welcomed a new General Manager.
Denise Beattie, a member of Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, took on the role in April. She says that one of her top priorities is to focus on First Nations communities.
“We’re hoping to offer a lot more community-based content on all kinds of things,” said Beattie in an interview with CHON-FM news. “What is going on in your communities? Maybe showcase some of your Yukon First Nation entrepreneurs, showcase your First Nation community.”
“So, we’ll be changing it up a bit. Rest assured, though: we’ll be continuing with all your favourites.”
Beattie says that another goal is to upgrade CHON-FM’s broadcast technology without changing the station’s formula.
“We’re hoping to bring CHON up to speed [and] modernize it a bit. But we still want to have a big focus on our language culture, and of course great music and entertainment for all ages.”
