Atlin Man Killed in Car Crash North of Whitehorse Friday

The driver identified as 33-year-old Jeffrey Rory Dion Williams

Just before 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25^th, 2017, Whitehorse RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle rollover at kilometre 1386 of the Alaska Highway.

Whitehorse RCMP, Yukon RCMP Traffic Services, Golden Horn Volunteer Fire Department, Mt. Lorne Volunteer Fire Department, the Yukon Fire Marshal's Office, Yukon Emergency Medical Services and the Yukon Coroner's Service responded to this incident.

Upon police arrival on scene, a BMW was located in the northbound lane, facing the shoulder of the highway. The 33-year-old male driver was located deceased near the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, and was ejected from the vehicle upon impact.

The Yukon Coroner's Service has identified the driver as Jeffrey Rory Dion Williams, recently of Atlin, British Columbia.

The three other occupants of the vehicle, one woman and two men, were transported to Whitehorse General Hospital by EMS. Their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The initial investigation has revealed that the vehicle was travelling southbound when it left the highway, collided with the southbound shoulder and flipped, eventually coming to a rest in the northbound lane.

The Alaska Highway was initially closed for a period of time while emergency responders worked at the scene. Traffic was affected in both directions for several hours, with vehicles being let through intermittently, while scene analysis was conducted by Yukon RCMP Traffic Services.

The RCMP and Yukon Coroner's Service are continuing to collaborate on this investigation.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
