The money will go towards a medical simulation centre which will be up and running next fall at the Whitehorse General Hospital.
Alkan Air has donated $200,000 to the Yukon Hospital Foundation for a medical simulation centre that will start operations out of Whitehorse General Hospital next fall.
The donation is part of a two-year initiative to build a simulation centre for the hospital, which is aiming to raise a total of 1 million dollars to get it up and running for the fall of next year.
$600,000 has been raised so far and the goal is to raise another $400,000 to get the centre up and running.
Of the 1 million dollars expected to be raised, $500,000 will go to transportable equipment which can provide simulation courses across the territory while the remaining portion which will help cover a five-year overhead for the operations of the simulation centre.
Alkan Air President Wendy Tayler, Pediatrician Catherine Smart, Hospital Foundation Chair Philip Fitzgerald, and Yukon Hospital Foundation President Karen Forward spoke at the event which occurred at 10 am at the Gold Rush Inn.
One full-time coordinator position will also likely be created for the position, and current Yukon Health Care Centre Employees will be helping with operations when the simulation centre opens.
