The AFN Yukon region launched the first Annual Yukon Regional Leadership Awards on the evening of November 14th. The event honours past AFN National Chiefs, Yukon AFN Regional Chiefs as well as new leaders in 6 different categories.
The event put on by the the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Yukon Region received attendees from across the Yukon and Canada. The Regional Chief Adamek is committed to celebrating and supporting community and acknowledging contributions and leadership in the Yukon and these awards recognize these leaders.
The award winners are as follows:
- Emerging Leader Award - Allision Kormendy & David Luke Campbell
- Woman in Leadership Award - Tosh Southwick & Lorraine Netro
- Climate Leader Award - Norma Kassi
- Language Warrior Award - Nakhela Hazel Bunbury
- Lifetime Achievement Award - Late Chief Robert Hager & Chief Richard Sidney & Dave Joe & Colleen James & Adeline Webber
- Honorary Achievement Award - Late Robert Lee Jackson/ Kanashk - Kukhittan
As well as these award winners the gala celebrated past and present AFN National and Regional Chiefs.
AFN National Chiefs honoured were Perry Bellegrade, Shawn Atleo, Phil Fontaine, Matthew Coon Come, Ovide Mercredi, George Erasmus, David Ahenakew, Delbert Riley BU, Noel Starblanket, George Manuel and Walter Dieter.
Yukon AFN Regional Chiefs honoured were Mike Smith, Eric Morris, Rick O'Brien, Mary Jane Jim, Shirley Adamson, Ed Hall, George Erasmus, Herb Norwegian and Harry Allen.
