The Kilrich Yukon Native Hockey Tournament returns to Whitehorse.
From Thursday March 21 to Sunday March 24, th the biggest Hockey Tournament will be taking place in Whitehorse at the Canada Games Centre and Takhini Arena.
The 44th Annual Yukon Native Hockey Tournament will see 56 teams from the Yukon, Bc, and North West Terriotries attending one of the most anticipated social events of the year.
The Yukon First Nations Hockey Association formerly Yukon Indian Hockey Association was created in 1973 to promote aboriginal hockey for all ages and provide the opportunity for Yukon's First Nation athletes to compete with other Canadian provinces and territories in the sport. For over 40 years, through the hard work and dedication of a volunteer board, the Yukon First Nations Hockey Association has hosted the Yukon Native Hockey Tournament in Whitehorse on the traditional land of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta'an Kwäch'än Council.
The City of Whitehorse in a media release, said transit service and parking will be limited at the CGC by the annual Kilrich Yukon Native Hockey Tournament. Anyone planning to visit the facility is encouraged to carpool, use Transit or overflow parking to assist with traffic flow. Drivers are asked to respect designated spaces as parking control will be enforced.
Motorists are advised not block transit lanes, including the stairs connecting to the Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre as vehicles will be towed if they are parked in designated no parking areas.
Transit riders planning to get on or off a Route #2 or Route #3 bus at the CGC will be asked to use the stop along Hamilton Boulevard. The Handy Bus will continue to use the regular CGC stop the release said.
