Minister Tracy McPhee sya $2.5 million over 17 years.
The Yukon government says it has paid out about 2.5 million dollars in settlements for historic sexual assault cases over the past 17 years.
Justice Minister Tracy McPhee issued a statement yesterday saying about 40 cases have been levelled against the territorial government and other parties -- including the federal government -- since 2000.
She says some of the cases have dismissed or discontinued, and most have been settled.
The release says victims are encouraged to seek healing and justice, and if someone has been harmed and wishes to come forward, they should be met with compassion and support.
