The Yukon government has shelved plans to build a new École Whitehorse Elementary School at the Takhini Educational Land Reserve, citing planning gaps that drove the original Liberal‑initiated project into cost overruns.

Starting early next year, the Department of Education will launch a fresh engagement effort, inviting parents, First Nations partners, neighbourhood groups, and the broader school community to weigh in on a range of possible sites.
“We are committed to a thoughtful, collaborative approach that reflects what Yukoners want and supports students for generations,” the minister said.
