The former MLA for Mayo-Tatchun said that he made the decision following rest, reflection, and careful consideration.

Former Speaker of the Yukon Legislative Assembly Jeremy Harper has announced his intention to seek nomination and run for Chief of Selkirk First Nation.

In a social media post Monday evening, the former MLA for Mayo-Tatchun said that he made the decision following rest, reflection, and careful consideration.

According to Harper’s post, his focus will include strengthening health care and mental wellness supports, advancing youth development, improving access to education, investing in infrastructure, and ensuring responsible land and resource management.

The post goes on to encourage Selkirk First Nation citizens to reach out with their priorities, concerns, and hopes for the future.

Selkirk First Nation has not yet called its 2026 election, but is expected to do so by January 31.
