MP Larry Bagnell, Grand Chief Peter Johnston and Mayor Dan Curtis were part of the Canadian Revenue Agency office opening in Whitehorse today.
All three territorial capitals officially have a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Northern Service Centre once again.
The official opening of the CRA office occurred today in Whitehorse, and Director Tim Phillips, MP Larry Bagnell, and Grand Chief Peter Johnston were all at the opening of the territorial office today at the Elijah Smith Building.
The renewed service will ensure Territorial residents and businesses will have better consultation when it comes to discussing tax affairs and northern tax matters.
Bagnell says any Yukoner will be able to access the service, provided they come in to the office or call from a number with a 867 area code.
"There is going to be dedicated phone lines that can be accessed when people come through Service Canada or from home. The service will operate on Yukon, not Ottawa hours."
At the event, Bagnell highlighted the Northern Living Allowance as just one example of how northern agents will be able to help Yukoners on their tax issues.
Three employees will also be working at the centre, including two outreach officers and one liaison officer.
The outreach workers will also help provide and conduct tax clinics to Yukoners in Whitehorse and outlying communities.
The CRA offices were closed in 2012 under the conservative government but Yukon MP Larry Bagnell has been fighting since the 2015 federal election campaign to get the Whitehorse office open again.
