Three challengers have announced their intention to vie for the position of Mayor in the upcoming Oct 18th election against incumbent Dan Curtis

Mayor Dan Curtis has his work cut out for him as candidates step forward announcing their intention to run against him for the position of Mayor for the City of Whitehorse in October.

Dan has won 2 consecutive elections in 2012 and 2015

Wilf Carter

Wilf Carter ran for Mayor in the 2015 election, finishing second to the incumbent Mayor Dan Curtis, Carter had 835. He announced in a May 2018 media story that he would be running again.

Carter has worked in a variety of government roles, including as Chief Administrative Officer of Teslin and as a Director of Housing for the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations.

Rick Karp

Rick Karp ran for Mayor in the 2012 election and recieved 20% of the votes. He was the caregiver for his wife at the time, who has since passed. After 14 Years as President at the Whitehorse Chamber of Mines, he's decided to try for the Mayoral position again.

“We live in Whitehorse and quite honestly I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. As mayor of Whitehorse I would concentrate on a number of key areas for making us even stronger than we are now and preparing the city for the expansion that is forecast for us.

“I would build on the relationship and good work done so far with the (Kwanlin Dün First Nation) and (Ta’an Kwach’an Council) on housing first, the Safe at Home initiative and on the partnership that the city’s developed between the city and the First Nations.”

Laura Cabott

“I love this great City of Whitehorse – my home for the past 26 years – and I am excited and passionate about its future. That is why I have decided to run for Council on October 18^th.”

Cabott has been deeply involved in the City. This includes operating a business, volunteering, being involved in sports and outdoor pursuits and building lifelong friendships. As a business owner, lawyer, negotiator and through her experience volunteering for numerous organizations, Cabott has the skills, passion and knowledge to help steer the City in a positive direction.

“I want to give back to this great City and the people of Whitehorse.”Cabott strongly believes that to achieve this vision, the City needs to focus on three key areas.

1. Working with all levels of government to create housing opportunities for all Whitehorse residents.

2. Supporting our downtown and neighbourhood businesses; essential to providing a healthy, clean, vibrant, safe community.

3. Finding solutions to our City transportation challenges.
