Minister responsible for the Yukon Housing Corporation Pauline Frost says a new housing project geared toward fixed-income housing is in the works in Whitehorse.
Following yesterdays announcement between the territorial and federal government to commit to $60 million dollars over ten years to improve housing in the Yukon, Minister of the Yukon Housing Corporation Pauline Frost says a new housing project geared toward fixed income is now in the works in Whitehorse.
Frost says the location of the development is at an ideal location downtown.
"The location of this proposed development is at 4th Avenue and Jekyll Street in downtown Whitehorse. This lot occupies a prominent position at the south end of town overlooking the Yukon River. It is ideally suited to support an expanded and purposed-built social and market housing development."
Frost says the housing project is one of the biggest by the Liberal government yet.
"We have earmarked a total of $18 million for this project. (The project) includes planning, design and construction of the new building beginning of in the spring of 2020. This will mark our Liberal government's most significant investment in housing since taking office... it will be able to support up to 48 units."
A contract will be issued for the design of the project in the coming months.
