The old SuperValu grocery store located on second avenue has undergone quite the transformation. It has now become the Northlight Innovation Hub, a model co-working space. It combines the MakeSpace (the old MakerSpace), CoSpace, Launch Space and sticks them under one very big roof that benefits all tenants.

The not for profit society was able to confidently make this 24 000 sq ft space it’s home after partnering up some anchor tenants. A whole wing of the building is set aside for 4200 sq ft for Yukon college while another whole office for Yukon Development Corporation is sandwiched in between the conjoined properties of Co-Space and MakeSpace.

LaunchSpace will likely associate with all the tenants of the Hub since it is a new branch dedicated to business programs and entrepreneurial training. Working under the same roof as the Yukon Development Corporation could create very integrated partnerships. Whether your a hands on or a tech savvy skilled worker, there is opportunity to seize.

Each space requires a separate membership which can be combined for savings or upgraded for special privileges such as 24-hour access and dedicated office or studio space.

The benefit of membership lies in the access to a full spectrum of tools from industrial sewing machines, laser cutters, CNC router and 3D printer.

For value you’ll have the usage of community space, including bathroom facilities, full kitchen access, boardrooms, not to mention power, internet access and an interior café.

The low overhead makes the community space ideal to launch into business or hone other not for profit ventures. There are varying levels of commitment to each aspect of the facility, and it’s designed to move people through the generations of growth, causing further turnover and maintaining a steady flow of ideas.

Their grand opening is on Oct 11th while there will still be significant upgrades taking place at that time, it shows what Northlight Innovation Hub is all about, community growth and mutual benefits.
