Yukon University will be Canada's first University north of 60. In anticipation of the official transition celebrations in May 2020 a brand video was produced by local filmmakers featuring awe-inspiring landscape of the place we call home.
Yukon College is soon to become Yukon University and Canada’s first University north of 60.
Leading up to the official university transition celebration in May 2020, the College has released a brand video. The video is a minute long and features awe-inspiring Yukon landscape and speaks of having a deep relationship with the place you live.
Jacqueline Bedard, Executive Director, External and Government Relations with the College said it’s important that Yukoners see themselves in the brand.
What was most important for me and for us as an Institution was that Yukoners felt and saw themselves in the eventual brand. Jacqueline Bedard, Executive Director, External and Government Relations
The video was filmed and edited by Yukon filmmakers Brendan Preston and Jayden Soroka under the direction of Will Creative. Extensive consultation with Yukon communities and stakeholders ensured that the creators of the video understood the role Yukon College plays in the communities today and the role people want Yukon University to play in the future.
Executive Director Jacqueline Bedard said what’s most important is that the visual identity reflects the people of the territory.
Ultimately you know the logo and visual identity, that’s art and not everybody is going to love it. No two people or no large group of people always feel the same about one piece of art. That’s OK. But what matters is that it really reflects the territory and the people of the territory. Jacqueline Bedard, Executive Director, External and Government Relations
A significant milestone in the transition to Yukon University is the development and passing of the Yukon University Act, which is expected in the fall sitting of the Legislature.
The video can be viewed on Yukon college social media channels and at YukonUniversity.ca
