An anonymous donor gave approximately $15,000 to ensure the fireworks show is a go for next year.
The Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Fireworks Show has been saved for another year.
The fireworks show is a key part of the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Festival, but lack of funding forced festival organizers to create a GoFundMe page to attempt to achieve their $15,000 needed for the event.
While the situation was looking dire with only partial proceeds raised, once local anonymous business donated approximately $15,000 to save the fireworks show for next year.
Dave Blottner, Executive Director of the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Society, says while there were some hard times getting the event set-up, he was extremely grateful when he got the anonymous donation.
"With one of our grants that we applied for that had come back declined... we thought we'd have to cancel the event. So we put together a GoFundMe as one last plea to the community.. and through the media and news about the GoFundMe... we received a phone call from a local business saying that they'd like to donate $15,000 to make sure the fireworks happened.
Blottner also says everything is ready-to-go for the 2019 festival and sponsors can still help out if they'd like.
The festival has been running since the 1940's, and just some of the events include Quest for the Crown, Queen event, the Quest for the Cup Sourdough Sam competition and Kids activity day.
he 2019 Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Festival will be held between February 15-24th of next year and full details about the festival will be released on December 1st.
