The Yukon River Ice went out in Dawson City on Sunday.
Fire Chief and protective services manager Mike Masserie says the I.O.D.E. tripod moved at about 5:03 pm.
Even though Masserie would not call it a heart stopping break-up, most of the town was on the riverbank after they heard the air horn.
Mike Masserie says it was standing room only along front street. He says cars just came 'ripping' out of everywhere to view the ice moving.
Masserie says water levels are actually lower than people expected and barring any ice-jams downriver there should be NO flooding.
Meanwhile, someone who guessed the closest time to breakup is in for some cash.
All 5-thousand, 20 dollar tickets were sold. The winner gets 50 percent of ticket sales.
