The US Government has officially announced that they will be reinstating the authorization of the Shakwak Project.
Funds around the agreement has since dried up earlier this year to help maintain portions of the 520-kilometer stretch of road around Haines Road and the Alaska highway in Canada.
The announcement is part of a larger $3.2 billion coming to Alaska over the next five years to help build and repair infrastructure investment across the state. U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan and others senators say the investment is "critical" since Alaska is one of the youngest and infrastructure-poor states in the country.
Despite the announcement from U.S. Senators, Minister of Highways and Public Works Richard Mostyn says there's still some final legwork to do to secure the funding needed to help repair portions of the road.
