There has been an update regarding the construction of F.H. Collins Secondary School Track and Field Meet in Whitehorse.
The construction commenced in June of this year and is expected to be completed around October of 2019 with a price tag of of 6.6 million dollars.
The track will be eight lanes and will be built to International Association of Athletics Federation standards. The project will include spectator seating, a shot put, two long jump pits and one high jump area.
Senior Project Manager Nick Rodger stated the benefits of the new track being built.
"The benefits are your getting a regulation sized track and field. You're (also) able to host events here. With the infrastructure we currently have in place, we're not able to host events. FH also gets a nice new track and field. And just for the community, active living is good as well".
While an exact figure couldn't be given, Rodger says many people have been employed through the project.
