Two of the three hospitalized earlier this week have been medevaced out of the territory.
There are 3 news cases of COVID-19 in the territory. That puts the active case count at 13.
Five of them are of the P.1 variant.
Twelve of the cases announced since Saturday, were not fully vaccinated. The one other person who tested positive is fully vaccinated and is recovering with mild symptoms.
Two of the infections are close contacts of previous cases. All are isolating and recovering at home. Case investigations for all are ongoing.
There is also an update on the three people in hospital. Two of them have been medevaced to hospitals outside the territory.
Premier Sandy Silver says if it weren’t for vaccines, things could be worse.
“If we were seeing P.1 variant back in November when we didn’t have so much of a population that is vaccinated, I shudder to think how quickly this would be spreading through Yukon. It bodes very well for us that our population is well vaccinated. If anything, it’s giving us reason to really push for 75 per cent second vaccination rates. What we’re seeing with the P.1 variant is that it’s aggressively targeting those who are not vaccinated. So, if anything, it’s a bit of a wake-up call.” Says Silver.
The new cases come with extensions of public exposure notices. You may have been exposed to COVID-19 if you were at Casa Loma Motel Bar on Monday, May 31, between 9 p.m. to 11 p.m or Whisky Jack’s Pub and Grill, between 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
