They say they need to plan for what is ahead.
The Tourism Industry Association of Canada is urging the federal, territorial, and provincial governments, to work together to open the Canada U.S border.
They say that with COVID-19 beginning to seem under control, the government is talking about decreasing economic relief programs that have supported the tourism industry throughout the pandemic. The association says the border needs to be opened to allow the industry to recover.
“Tourism business and employees across this country have worked hard to ensure all products and experiences meet the proper health and hygiene regulations, so that we can be ready. We’re asking for the ability to plan.” Said Tourism Industry Association of Canada Board Chair, David McKenna at an online press conference this morning.
He was joined by representatives from all over Canada including Blake Rogers of the Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon.
The association says that tourism operators depend on pre-booking and need to know what is going on ahead of time so they can prepare.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada will eventually take steps to ease border restrictions for fully vaccinated people, but he's not saying when.
U.S. lawmakers have also been pressuring President Joe Biden to ease restrictions before the summer travel season begins.
