Doubleview Gold Corporation and Terracad Geoscience Services Ltd. ordered to immediately stop all activities at the Hat Property.
Taku River Tlingit First Nation is taking action against a mining company for violating Tlingit laws. In a media release on Monday, the Nation announced that it has issued a Stop Work Order to Doubleview Gold Corporation and Terracad Geoscience Services Limited for what it calls unlawful exploration and mining activities at the Hat Property.
The release says that neither company had requested consent from Taku River Tlingit First Nation for any exploration or mining activities at the property, and that their actions have endangered a protected wetland and harmed a significant archaeological site.
Taku River Tlingit First Nation was not the first to issue an order to these companies. According to the release, the Government of British Columbia has been issuing orders to Doubleview and Terracad since 2020 for prohibited drilling near a wetland, improper fuel storage, and improper staff training, to name a few.
The Stop Work Order prohibits Doubleview and Terracad from further exploration or mining at the Hat Property, effective immediately.
