Local residents remain on evacuation alert
Yukon Wildland Fire Management has has changed status of the forest fire near the Takhini Bridge from out of control to being held. The announcement was made in a bulletin at about 8 p.m. on Sunday. The change in status means that they are confident that the incident will remain within the control lines given the current resources and conditions.
Among those resources include the 20-person crew of Wildland Firefighters from Nova Scotia’s Department of Forestry and Natural Resources. The crew will begin working on the fire for a 14-day shift, camping at the incident command post at Hidden Valley Elementary School.
The estimate of the fire’s size remains at 1546 hectares, and parts of the Ibex Valley remain under an evacuation alert. Yesterday’s resources included 34 firefighters, (14 from Yukon First Nations Wildfire), one incident management team, four pieces of heavy equipment, and two helicopters.
