12 of the 42 units will be assigned to TKC citizens starting in November
A 42-unit housing project, lead in partnership with the Da Daguay Development Corporation of the Ta'an Kwach'an Council and the Yukon Housing Corporation is officially open.
The facility called "River Bend" was built to super green standards, featuring one-to-three-bedroom apartments. Some of the units were reserved for members of the Ta'an Kwach'an Council, while other apartments will go to people on the Yukon Housing waiting list.
Chief Kristina Kane says 12 TKC families will soon call River Bend their home. Ta'an Kwach'an Council citizens helped construct the three buildings.
This housing project is much needed as the wait list for housing has doubled over the past 15 months. As of last July, 105 people were waiting to be placed in housing, now that number has climbed to 217 as of the end of September. Eight other rental units were opened in Dawson City in May.
