A state of emergency has been declared in Mayo.
After an extensive deliberation between the Mayor of Mayo, Trevor Ellis, the Chief of First Nation of Na-cho Nyäk Dun, Dawna Hope, and the Yukon Executive Council, a state of emergency has been declared in Mayo.
This declaration which falls under the Civil Emergency Measures Act for Mayo, and surrounding areas affected by, or at risk of wildfire, covers a 15 km radius from the centre of the community.
As the Talbot Creek Fire continues to threaten the Village of Mayo and the Na-cho Nyäk Dun First Nation community, Mayo Volunteer Fire Department, the RCMP, Special Heavy Operations Team (SHOT), and other response agencies are not relenting in their efforts to safeguarding lives and property in Mayo and its environs.
