BC Construction firm granted $4 million contract
A Vancouver company has been awarded a $4 million contract to repair the Ross River Suspension Bridge.
Surespan Construction will perform the work.
That's $1 million more than estimated. It was four years ago that engineers found the bridge to be unsafe for public use..
The government has already spent $1.6 million on the first phase of stabalizing the towers, and will now spend the additional money on new cables, anchors, stairs and decking.
The bridge was constructed during World War II by the US Army over the Pelly River.
It was later converted to a footbridge for residents to cross the river. It is unknown when the repairs will begin.
