Premier Sandy Silver and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Catherine McKenna met in Ottawa yesterday to discuss climate change impacts and strategies in the North.
In addition, both governments also recognized the impacts Yukoners are seeing in terms of climate change, with rising temperatures as just one issue raised.
Allocation of 31 million dollars was also announced via the Low Carbon Economy Fund to help approve energy efficiency and reduce emission in northern infrastructure.
The Low Carbon Economy Fund is an imperative $2 billion Pan-Canadian Framework focusing on clean growth and climate change that is currently getting underway in most provinces and territories.
In the meeting, Mckenna congratulated Premier Silver for his unique pricing pollution model to help fight climate change, and she highlighted the importance working with Indigenous People to help everyone adapt to climate change and protect the natural environment.
Sandy Silver also commented on the meeting, saying "Yukon is proud to be moving forward in partnership with the Government of Canada to protect our environment, strengthen our climate action, and grow our economy."
