First Nation leaders and Yukon government representatives will all be in Mayo this afternoon for the official signing of the Peel Watershed Regional Land Use Plan.
The Peel Watershed Regional Land Use Plan is set to be signed in Mayo today at 3:30pm.
Representatives from the Yukon Government, the Trondek Hwech'in, the Na-Cho Nyak Dun and Vuntut Gwitchin First Nations and the Gwich'in Tribal Council will all be part of the signing ceremony.
Festivities will begin at 3:30pm with a riverfront ceremony in the community and will then transfer over to the community hall at 6:00pm with a dinner and celebration.
For those unable to make it to Mayo, a viewing of the ceremony will be hosted today by CPAWS Yukon and the Yukon Conservation Society at 3pm today at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre.
The Peel Watershed planning region is around 67,000 square kilometres and final recommendations from a commission stated for 80% of the area to be protected and for the remaining portion to be open up for potential development.
