The Government of Yukon released a tender today regarding the paving of the Dawson City Airport. The project will commence in the spring of 2019.
The Government of Yukon have announced a tender for the paving of the Dawson City airport runway. The project will commence in the spring of 2019.
The project tender will close on September 18, 2018 and also will incorporate a second apron to ensure traffic and airport operations are being done safely and productively.
The airport was constructed in the 1930's and is the second-busiest runway in the territory.
The project was a campaign promise made by Premier Sandy Silver for the paving in the 2016 election campaign.
Brittany Stewart, a Spokesperson for the Department of Public and Highway Works, said in a statement that exact budget figures for the project can't be released until the project tender closes on September 18th.
A 2016 evaluation conducted in partnership with the Dawson City Chamber of Commerce 2016 estimated the total cost for the project to be $11 million dollars, including annual operating costs of the paved runway at $805,000 dollars.
