Yukoners can extend their burning permits.
The Whitehorse Fire Department is extending the open burning season beyond March 31 in light of the remaining snowpack and gradual warming temperatures.
Current burning permits can be extended and new permits activated by contacting Deputy Fire Chief Chris Green.
Residents are required to email their burning plan with pictures to chris.green@whitehorse.ca. A sight inspection may be required.
Fires can not be lit before receiving approval. If conditions become unfavourable, permits will be revoked.
Under normal circumstances, open burning is not allowed within City limits between April 1 and September 30, except for cooking fires.
