A study by the Gwich'in Council International says the OC pays 76 cents per kW, only to rise when Carbon Tax kicks in.
According to a study produced by Gwich'in Council International, Old Crow pays the highest of any community for diesel power generation.
The report issued Thursday says Old Crow pays 76 cents per kiloWatt hour and that cost will only rise once a carbon tax is implemented.
In comparison, communities in the MacKenzie Delta pay between 58-to 66 cents per kiloWatt hour.
The study suggests that the price per kiloWatt hour will rise by one penny in 2018 to 5 cents in 2022 when the price of carbon is set to $50 a tonne.
The report recommends that in managing these costs, communities examine energy retro-fits of home and community facilities and renewable energy.
Communities in all three territories were studied.
