Yukoners urged to check home for radon levels
The Yukon Lung Association and territorial government are urging Yukoners to test for radon in their home and to take action if needed.
Free radon testing kits are now available until the end of November.
Radon is a colourless and odorless gas, which may be found in any home or dwelling and is the second leading cause of cancer.
The Yukon has the highest levels of radon in Canada.
It is found in soil, rock or water and can enter buildings through cracks, drains, sump pumps and gaps around pipe fittings.
Testing for radon is recommended for a minimum of three months during the winter.
