The new installments of the Yukon federal Gas Tax Fund will help fund infrastructure projects for First Nations and municipalities across the Territory.
The federal Gas Tax Fund will help boast two 8.25 million dollar installments to communities around Yukon this year. The Gas Tax Fund is a long-term funding initiative in partnership with the Government of Canada that supports local infrastructure projects for First Nations and Yukon municipalities across the Territory.
The Carcross/Tagish First Nations will enjoy a new and upgraded pool and improved access to aquatic activities for families and seniors. Multi-use trails in the City of Whitehorse will also be upgraded.
Drinking water, recreation and local roads are the primary initiatives for funding this year unfer the fund.
The gas tax will flow through all 14 First Nations territories in Yukon. Substantial investments include $294,881 to the Carcross/Tagish First Nation, $458,703 to the Champagne and Aishihik First Nation, and $827,711 to the City of Dawson.
The funding is said to help give communities a broad range of funding options for their infrastructure needs.
In total, the gas tax fund will provide over 16 million dollars this year alone for local infrastructure projects in the Territory.
