Health and Social Services will take over the facility operations from the Salvation Army on January 31st.
The Yukon Government has provided more details regarding their transfer of ownership from the Salvation Army's Centre of Hope.
Health and Social Services spokesperson Patricia Living says her department will overtake the facility's operations and building ownership around lunchtime this Thursday, and certain Salvation Army staff like cleaning and kitchen staff have been hired by Yukon Government to help in the ownership transition.
The building is also undergoing a temporary name change and will be now known as the Whitehorse Emergency Shelter, and the upgraded facility with have 20 additional shelter mats, a new intake of shelter beds, and improved hours for clients in the shelter.
Living says meal services will remain as is, including access to the facilities amenities such as showers and laundry and Wednesday social activities.
