The two people who perished in an Alkan AIr C208 Caravan aircraft crash on the north side of Mayo Lake yesterday have been identified as 24-year-old pilot Shawn Thomas Kitchen of Whitehorse and 33-year-old passenger Julia Lane of Vancouver.
According to Yukon Chief Coroner Heather Jones, both of the occupants were confirmed deceased at the crash scene located about 20 minutes by air from Mayo.
The aircraft was leaving Rackla, an old mining airstrip approximately 150 kilometers northeast of Mayo, and was enroute to Mayo when the plane went down.
In a statement, Alkan Air says a flyover located the downed aircraft at the crash scene at approximately 1:30 pm yesterday when it was confirmed that no survivors were on-board.
Coroner Jones says Lane was a managing partner of the geological consulting firm of Archers, Cathro and Associates and was working in the Rackla area before the crash occurred.
Yukon Coroners Service say they are continuing the investigation with the Transportation and Safety Board of Canada and with assistance from the Mayo RCMP detachment.
