The award was given to the participants who helped get the "Single Track to Success" initiative started near Carcross, Yukon.
Three Yukoners have received the Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General for their efforts in building a mountain bike trail network at the base of Carcross Mountain.
The Meritiorious Service Decorations recognize Canadians for exceptional deeds accomplished over a defined period of time that brings honour to their country.
Located near Carcross, Yukon, the mountain bike project is titled "Single Track to Success", and recipients of the medal include Derek Crow, Justin Ferbey, and Jane Koeplke, all who helped get the project going.
The 655 kilometer network of trails have resulted in thousands of tourists to the area, and the Carcross/Tagish First Nation mainly assisted in building and maintaining the trail system.
The project has also employed over 15 local youth and has created hundreds of volunteer hours for various people to help support the initiative.
The project was initiated in 2006 with the incentive to create internationally recognized single-track bike trails in the Carcross area.
