It's her first visit to the Yukon as Governor General.
Governor General Julie Payette was greeted by Territorial officials and the public today as she talked in the Taylor House on Main Street in Whitehorse for administrative duties.
Commissioner of Yukon Angelique Bernard says its a pleasure having her visit the house.
"It's great to have the Queen's representative to visit all the territories and provinces and meet her representatives in those regions."
The Taylor House, known as the Office of the Commissioner of the Yukon, was built in 1937 and has had its original wooden frame and condition restored since.
Shortly after, Payette was greeted by the Quarter Guard at the Legislature at 10:30 am, where she met with the public, Grand Chief Peter Johnston, Kwanlin Dun First Nation Chief Dorris Bill, Premier Sandy Silver, among other constituents.

Payette says it's great to be in the Yukon.
"This is not my first time here. I've come many times as an astronaut. This is my first time as Governor General and it's a real privilege and an enormous honour to be here. Today, because it is the first visit, there's a bit more protocol. But the next visit... I hope to be out there, everywhere, where the Yukon is the Yukon with the people and in the field."

Payette took a tour of the Yukon College Ayamdigut campus where she toured the Student Research Laboratory and spoke with researchers about their work.
Student ambassador, Anjela Bali said, "It really felt special that she would pay a visit. She is not going anywhere else; just Yukon College. It really means a lot that they really care what is going on in the North, what's going on in Yukon"
