After the Resignation of Scott Brison as President of the Treasury Board, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the new Cabinet this morning.
Seamus O'Regan moves from Veterans Affairs to Indigenous Services in today's cabinet shuffle, replacing Jane Philpott, who becomes President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Digital Government.
O'Regan says he has been involved in indigenous issues before during his political career. He was a CTV National News Reporter and a host on Canada AM and was elected in 2015. His responsibilities for the position, which split the portfolio in 2017 from Northern Affairs and Indigenous Services into two files, include healthcare, water and other services to indigenous communities.
Also part of the minor Liberal cabinet shuffle saw Judy-Wilson-Raybould switch roles from Minister of Justice to the minister of Veterans Affairs and associate Minister of National Defence.
Assembly of First Nations Grand Chief, Perry Bellegarde, who will meet with the new ministers today, says "We lift up the work of former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould as the first indigenous Justice Minister and her efforts to bring a first nations perspective to Canada's legal system."
Other Changes include, Quebec MP David Lametti moving from Parliamentary Secretary for Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development to the Minister of Justice, and Attorney General of Canada.
While Bernadette Jordan, moves from Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister of Democratic Institutions to become the Minister of Rural Economic Development which is a new portfolio. She is the first female minister to represent a federal riding from Nova Scotia.
The shuffle comes after the resignation of Nova Scotian MP Scott Brison as the President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Digital Government.
