a unit with 10 beds is opening in the Thompson Centre to help Yukon Seniors age in place.
A new program aims to keep seniors in their home by offering reablement and respite.
The unit has 10-beds which are aimed at persons who are struggling to maintain their home.
The relatively new innovation of reablement program is the first of it's kind in the territory and aims to help seniors Age in Place.
The program is not a rehabilitation unit, nor a sub-acute care facility but about helping people to do things for themselves, rather than doing things for people and working towards goals with an agreed upon timeframe.
The reablement program will help individuals regain strength, endurance, functioning and independence to allow them to stay in their homes longer.
The respite beds are opening to maintain the number of respite beds in the system as Macaulay Lodge prepares to close.
