Deputy Chief Darius Elias is resigning from the office of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation (VGFN). With two current vacancies, the Vuntut Gwitchin Government is already in the process of filling vacant seats on Council. Deputy Chief Elias therefore felt that it was the right time to submit his resignation and retire from politics.
Darius Elias said in a statement, "I have dedicated my entire professional career to help fulfill the Vuntut Gwitchin vision and I am confident that I have now fulfilled my promise to my Grandma the late Mary Kassi. I will be here to ensure quorum and to assist with the 30-day transition period of the new council members once they are sworn in."
Vuntut Gwitchin Government would like to express our sincere appreciation for the lifelong work and dedication Deputy Chief Elias has shown over the decades to the well being of Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation citizens. Chief and Council appreciate Deputy Chief Elias' dedication and sense of duty to VGG business and good governance by remaining on Council until new members have transitioned.
"I will respect the Oath of Office and the VGFN Constitution to alleviate any stresses and minimize the impact to the good governance of the Vuntut Gwitchin. It is time to move on to other challenges and pay more care and attention to my family," said Elias.
Mahsi cho Deputy Chief. We wish you all the best in whatever adventures lay ahead.
