Vancouver International Airport expects to feel the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic for the next three years.
A statement from the airport says it estimates traffic will tumble to between eight- and 15-million passengers through 2023 -- down from its usual volume of 26-million passengers annually.
Y-V-R says, despite a government program announced this morning to help large employers retain staff, it must cut 25 per cent of its nearly 550-person workforce -- and the first layoffs have been issued.
The airport authority says both management and union positions are affected, but it is confident that the cuts will ensure the appropriate team is in place to operate Y-V-R now and into the future. (The Canadian Press)
