Caribou Days are retuning to Old Crow.
The cultural celebration that honors the Porcupine Caribou and their importance in the Vuntut Gwitch'in culture and tradition was canceled last year due to the COIVD-19 pandemic. The event is back on this year, but it will be smaller and more community focussed. It will be open to Yukon-based Vuntut Gwitch'in citizens and invited guests only. To comply with public health and safety measures, Caribou Days events will be spread out across the community. Outdoor activities will be limited to 100 people, with appropriate distancing and indoor activities will be capped at 50 people with mandatory mask use. Organizers are also asking attendees to keep a safe distance from one another and refrain from hugs and hand shakes.
Caribou days will take place from May 21 to 24.
