Legalization will occur nationwide on October 17th, 2018.
In one month today, cannabis legalization will occur across the Territory.
Lilian Dick, a senator with the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Issues, traveled across multiple northern First Nations communities last week with five senators and she commented on the challenges First Nations and other communities face with the upcoming legalization.
"The majority of people we spoke to actually brought up Bill C45, the cannabis legislation. They (community members) were concerned of the impact of cannabis legalization in their communities and how it's going to be controlled. They were also commenting that they had no input into it and they weren't ready for it."
In an official release earlier this year from the official opposition,The Yukon Party has also outlined their proposal for cannabis regulation, highlighting the need of cannabis regulation more by the private sector instead of encouraging growth of cannabis jobs in government.
The official opposition party also notes the expansion of cannabis jobs in the government sector will increase costs to the average taxpayer.
The British Columbia Government has also recently stated their first store will open in Kamloops, with other stores following on Vancouver Island, Cariboo, and the north.
