This would be the second strike in six months, following a 32-day work stoppage last November and December that caused significant disruptions to essential services.
With a potential Canada Post strike looming, Yukoners are advised to prepare for disruptions to mail and parcel delivery services.
A 72-hour strike notice has been issued by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, representing 55,000 postal workers, with operations potentially shutting down by the end of the week.
This would be the second strike in six months, following a 32-day work stoppage last November and December that caused significant disruptions to essential services, including medication and social assistance cheque delivery.
Canada Post spokesperson Jon Hamilton expressed disappointment at the potential strike, citing concerns for employees, small businesses, charities, and individuals relying on the service.
The union is seeking new contracts, including for 23,000 mail carriers, and has rejected a federally commissioned report recommending foundational changes to Canada Post's business model, including phasing out daily door-to-door letter mail delivery for individual residences.
In preparation for the potential strike, Yukoners are encouraged to explore alternative delivery options and make necessary arrangements to minimize disruptions to their businesses and daily lives.
