These include all highways heading into British Columbia from Yukon.
Yukoners driving into British Columbia are reminded that starting today, winter tires or carry chains will be mandatory on all highways leading into the province.
These roads include Highway 7 heading south to Atlin in British Columbia, Highway 37 heading south to Dease Lake, Highway 1 turning into Highway 97 into British Columbia just north of Lower Post and Highway 7 turning into Highway 77 into British Columbia just south of Fort Liard.
Winter tires or carry chains are required along these routes from October 1 to April 31st.
Motorists may be turned back along certain routes and faced with a fine if they don't adhere to the rules.
While chains are not mandatory across Yukon, Yukon Highway and Public Works notes they are recommended to have in case of an emergency in the Territory.
The department also notes that those in Yukon should change to winter tires as the temperatures drops below zero celsius.
