Watson Lake residents and those living in southeastern Yukoners are being asked to take health precautions following an air quality advisory that has been issued for the area.
According to a new release, smoke is spreading in the area and is a result from wildfires burning around the community of High Level, Alberta, which has forced the evacuation of the community of just over 3000 people.
While officials say the blaze isn't expected to reach the community, dry conditions will likely mean lingering smoke in the days to come.
Other precautions Yukoners can take if they feel coughing or throat irritation from smoke include limiting outdoor and physical activity and turning on an indoor air cleaner with a HEPA filter, according to the release.
There are currently 89 firefighters, 24 helicopters and three air tankers fighting the out-of-control wildfire in northwestern Alberta.
The wildfire is one of 30 active fires currently burning in the province.
