Dr. Hanley is encouraging people to limit social gatherings to no more than 6.
Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brendan Hanley is reporting 44 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend. That puts the active infection count at 124. The news comes from the latest press release which was issued yesterday evening.
The majority of the cases are in Whitehorse though according to the release, “COVID-19 is being widely transmitted throughout Yukon, primarily affecting unvaccinated people and is now present in most Yukon communities. Eleven of 14 communities are home to COVID-19 positive people.”
It also repots 102 recoveries since June 1.
The release also says “Several daycare centres are now exposure locations for COVID-19.” Dr. Hanley is recommending that parents keep their kids home from child care programs if possible.
Dr. Hanley is also declaring an outbreak at the Whitehorse Emergency Shelter Approximately 15 cases of COVID-19 have now been confirmed in shelter guests and staff.
There are ne measures to keep Yukon’s Hospitals safe. You should Only go to the hospital emergency department, if you need urgent care. Starting today, there are new visitor restriction, no visitors or support persons will be allowed. Some non-urgent hospital services will be limited or postponed. People entering hospitals will also be asked additional screening questions and asked to wear a hospital provided mask, even if they bring their own.
Dr. Hanley says we can expect to see high daily case counts going forward. He is also encouraging people to take what he is calling a “social firebreak”, and limit informal gatherings to no more than six.
Anyone with symptoms should arrange to get tested.
