Bagnell wants more family time.
Yukon’s Member of Parliament Larry Bagnell has announced he will not be ruining in the next federal election.
Bagnell told media the news outside of the Canada Games Centre in Whitehorse yesterday afternoon, saying getting funding for the centre from former Prime Minister Paul Martin was one of the highlights of his career.
Bagnell says that being an MP is a 24/7 job that takes away from family time and he wants to spend more time with his kids.
“I could easily stay in this job, but if I give the attention to my kids that I want to, I wouldn’t really be doing this particular job justice,” says Bagnell.
Bagnell says his last day on the job will be when the election is called.
There’s no word on who his Liberal successor will be.
Bagnell first served as the territory’s MP from 2001 to 2011, and was re-elected in 2015 and 2019.
